Illustrated Tapes – Design
The relationship between music and visual art
Illustrated Tapes is a collaborative project exploring and celebrating the relationship between music and visual art, one mixtape at a time. I was invited to curate my own mixtape and visualise its cover.
The mixtape was curated with the concept of a mini vacation: a fun break from the work grind and the burdens of adult life. Filled with music from around the world, appropriately titled ‘Flight Mode’.
Initiative by London based designer and illustrator Sam Ailey
‘Flight Mode’ was inspired by the functionality of our phones, and how some of us have trouble shutting off from their workday. With a lot of us working from home, the line between work and free life can be blurry, hence why self-care and taking enough breaks is so important.
“This mixtape is filled with both energetic and tranquil tunes, alternating between fast- and slow-paced. When I pitched the concept pre-covid, I was lucky to be able to go abroad a couple of times. But so far in 2020, my wildest trips have been to the grocery store. I’m more homebound than ever and yearning for the times we can really move freely again.” Read the full interview on illustratedtapes.com
